Firearms Applications

Firearms Application forms can be accessed on-line 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Below is a breakdown of the items required for Firearms Applicants. Click on the appropriate link to access instructions and/or the necessary form(s).

**The falsification of information on any of the applications for firearms permits is a violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-10c and is a crime of the third degree. Any falsification may result in criminal charges against you**

If you need an:

Initial New Jersey Firearms ID Card
Initial Application for Handgun

You will need to:

You must also go to njportal.com/NJSP/farsto complete the online S.T.S. 033 Form
Click the yellow link at the bottom of the page that reads “Online S.T.S. 033 Form” to begin the process.
Enter the ORI# for South Toms River: NJ0152900.
Check boxes in regards to Initial Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and you may also apply for Permit to purchase a Handgun in the same transaction. The maximum amount of permits per transaction is 3.
Continue completing the online application. You may complete the application using a smart phone, mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. When completing the application you will need the email address of two reputable references. Your references can be family members.
You will be receiving automated email updates throughout this new process.

Submit to fingerprinting at a local Morpho-Trak facility.

- The service code you need to enter is 2F164B
You will need to email our records department to obtain a case number prior to scheduling a fingerprinting appointment.
Once your application is complete, the Firearms investigation Unit will contact you to receive your FID card and/or pistol purchase permit documents.
Submit $5.00 in cash or money order made payable to: Borough of South Toms River for the initial Firearms ID Card
Submit $2.00 in cash or money order made payable to: Borough of South Toms River for each handgun permit (Note: Applicants can only make application for up to 3 handgun purchaser permits at a time)
Please advise your references that the FARS system will email them the reference questions to be answered. Your references can complete the questions using a smart phone, mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. Please advise them to complete the questions immediately to progress your background investigation.
The online application is applicant driven. Please ensure that you have entered the best phone numbers for yourself and references as well as the best email addresses for yourself and references

You will need to:

Enter the ORI# for South Toms River: NJ0152900.
Click Permit to purchase a Handgun and enter the number of permits requested. (Maximum 3).
Complete form: NJSP S.P. 66Consent for Mental Health Records Search
Submit $2.00 in cash or money order made payable to: Borough of South Toms River for each handgun permit (Note: Applicants can only make application for up to 3 handgun purchaser permits at a time)
Once your application is complete, the Firearms investigation Unit will contact you to receive your pistol purchase permit documents.

Fingerprints are not required for this application.
